Questions people ask before they run the numbers
Are tips taxed the same way as hourly wages here?⌄
For estimate purposes, yes. The calculator treats reported tips as taxable wages for federal withholding, state withholding, Social Security, and Medicare.
Can I use this for a paycheck with more than one hourly rate?⌄
Yes. Add up to three hourly lines so you can capture a base rate, overtime, or another premium rate before tips are added.
Why separate wages and tips in the output?⌄
It makes it easier to see how much of the paycheck came from direct wages versus tip income, especially when take-home pay swings from period to period.
Should cash tips that were not reported be included?⌄
Only include income you want reflected in the taxable paycheck estimate. If the tips are not being run through payroll, this page will not mirror that exact cash flow.
