Questions people ask before they run the numbers

Are tips taxed the same way as hourly wages here?

For estimate purposes, yes. The calculator treats reported tips as taxable wages for federal withholding, state withholding, Social Security, and Medicare.

Can I use this for a paycheck with more than one hourly rate?

Yes. Add up to three hourly lines so you can capture a base rate, overtime, or another premium rate before tips are added.

Why separate wages and tips in the output?

It makes it easier to see how much of the paycheck came from direct wages versus tip income, especially when take-home pay swings from period to period.

Should cash tips that were not reported be included?

Only include income you want reflected in the taxable paycheck estimate. If the tips are not being run through payroll, this page will not mirror that exact cash flow.
